Double-A Chattanooga
After a series of rain cancellations cut Chattanooga’s outings against the Columbus Clingstones in half, the Lookouts took two games of the three-game series. Chattanooga opened its three-game stint with a 1-0 win on May 30, powered by an Ethan O’Donnell home run for the lone run scored.
The usual suspects – Chase Burns (Reds No. 1 prospect), Sal Stewart (Reds No. 3 prospect), Edwin Arroyo (Reds No. 5 prospect) and Héctor Rodriguez (Reds No. 11 prospect) – then helped Chattanooga follow up their win with a 7-1 victory on May 31.
Burns dealt 4 strikeouts in 6 innings with a 1.54 ERA for his 5th win, Stewart and Arroyo each drove a run in, while Rodriguez’ 2 hits culminated in 2 RBIs. The Lookouts couldn’t grab the series sweep, however, as they fell to Columbus on June 1.
Single-A Daytona
A tough series against the Jupiter Hammerheads ended on a high note for Daytona with a 12-7 win on June 1.
The high-scoring victory was led by Reds No. 7 prospect Alfredo Duno, whose two home runs brought in 5 runners. The 19-year-old catcher batted .750 (3-for-4) with a .800 OBP and a 2.250 SLG %.
Despite only taking two wins in the six-game series, Daytona kept the stint competitive, as they did not lose by more than two runs all series.
Franco, Rodriguez named Reds Minor League Pitcher/Player of the Month for April
Double-A Chattanooga's Jose Franco was named Reds Pitcher of the Month. The 24-year-old right-hander finished the month with a 1-0 record in five games (four starts). In 17.1 innings, Franco allowed just one run, which equated to a 0.52 ERA. He also had 24 strikeouts, third most on the team.
The Lookouts also had the organization's Player of the Month in Hector Rodriguez. Ranked 11th among Reds prospects heading into the season, the 21-year-old outfielder finished April with a .354 batting average, .414 OBP, three doubles, two home runs and 11 RBIs. The batting average led all Southern League hitters.
Top 30 Reds Prospects for 2025
Prior to the season, MLB Pipeline released its annual Top 30 Prospects list for each MLB team. One of the newest members to the Reds organization headlines the group for 2025.
Pitcher Chase Burns, selected No. 2 overall by the Reds in the 2024 MLB First-Year Player Draft, slots in at No. 1 and is poised to be on the fast track to the big leagues much like his fellow Demon Deacon and No. 2 prospect, Rhett Lowder. Lowder, who sits in the No. 2 position for the second straight year, is already a household name in Reds Country following his impressive late season stint in the big leagues.
Infielders Sal Stewart and Cam Collier come in at No. 3 and No. 4 respectively, each jumping up three notches from where they started in 2024. Stewart and Collier provided a prolific one-two punch for a high-powered Dayton Dragons offense last year. Stewart recently made headlines after receiving praise from his longtime friend and offseason workout partner, six-time All-Star Manny Machado. Collier is coming into the 2025 season brimming with confidence as well after being named the 2024 Reds Minor League Position Player of the Year. Slick-fielding shortstop Edwin Arroyo rounds out the top five. Arroyo is eager to retake the field after being sidelined in 2024 with a torn left labrum.
All five players also find themselves on MLB Pipeline’s leaguewide Top 100 Prospect list.
