June 17, 1930

RF Chuck Klein sets a modern club record with a 26-game hitting streak (May 18 (gm 2)-June 17, .486) and duplicates it later in the season (July 12-August 3 (gm 1), .434). In between, he hits in 19 of 23 games. Overall, he hits safely in 71 of 75 games, batting .425 over that span.

June 17, 1990

The Phillies make their first-ever appearance on ESPN’s “Sunday Night Baseball” but fall to the Cubs, 5-3, at Veterans Stadium.

June 17, 2012

Playing in Toronto, Jim Thome leads off the second inning with a home run, his 100th as a Phillie. He becomes the fourth player in major league history with at least 100 home runs for three different teams, joining Reggie Jackson, Darrell Evans and Alex Rodriguez.

June 17, 2024

DH Kyle Schwarber homers twice in a 9-2 win over San Diego at Citizens Bank Park to become the fastest player in MLB history to reach 60 home runs in the month of June, doing so in only 172 games played.

June 18, 1948

After posting a 9-1 record with the Wilmington Blue Rocks, RHP Robin Roberts makes his ML debut, a 2-0 loss to Pittsburgh at Shibe Park.

June 18, 1960

RHP Dallas Green takes the loss in his ML debut, a 7-4 defeat to the San Francisco Giants at Candlestick Park.

June 18, 1989

Following the Phillies’ 6-5 win over New York, GM Lee Thomas pulls off two major trades, sending 2B Juan Samuel to the New York Mets for CF Lenny Dykstra, RHP Roger McDowell and a player to be named later (triple-A RHP Tom Edens), and sending RHP Steve Bedrosian and a player to be named later (double-A OF Rick Parker) to San Francisco for LHP Terry Mulholland, LHP Dennis Cook and 3B Charlie Hayes.

June 18, 2002

The Phillies play their first-ever game against the Chicago White Sox, a 6-3 loss in 12 innings at Veterans Stadium.

June 18, 2004

The Phillies match up against Kansas City for the first time since the 1980 World Series. This time, the Royals come out on top, 10-4, at Citizens Bank Park.

June 18, 2008

On the 60th anniversary of his ML debut, Robin Roberts’ No. 36 is officially retired by the Phillies.

June 19, 1927

Jack Scott throws two complete games on the same day, the last Phillies pitcher to do so. The right-hander wins the first game, 3-1, but loses the nightcap, 3-0, at Cincinnati, while walking only one batter over 17 innings.

June 20, 2004

SS Jimmy Rollins hits the first inside-the-park home run at Citizens Bank Park in the second inning of an 8-2 win over Kansas City.

June 20, 2006

Ryan Howard drives in seven and hits two home runs off future Hall of Famer Mike Mussina, including the first to land in the third deck in right field at Citizens Bank Park, but the Yankees top the Phils, 9-7.

June 21, 1964

RHP Jim Bunning pitches the first perfect game in Phillies history when he blanks the Mets, 6-0, in the first game of a Father’s Day doubleheader at New York’s Shea Stadium. Gus Triandos becomes the first catcher ever to be behind the plate for no-hitters in each league. Eighteen-year-old rookie RHP Rick Wise secures his first ML win in the second game, 8-2.

June 21, 1986

Steve Carlton makes his final start for the Phillies, allowing six hits, six walks and six runs in 5.0 innings in an 8-6 loss to St. Louis. Four days later, he is released.

June 21, 2002

The Phillies play their first-ever game against the Minnesota Twins, a 3-0 win at Veterans Stadium behind RHP Brandon Duckworth.

June 21, 2019

With a sellout crowd on hand for Chase Utley Retirement Night, the Phillies welcome their 150th million fan, becoming the sixth of the current 30 franchises to reach that milestone in its respective city, joining the Dodgers, Cardinals, Cubs, Red Sox and Tigers.

June 22, 1977

In a 15-9 win over the Reds at Veterans Stadium, SS Larry Bowa belts his only career grand slam off Cincinnati reliever Joe Hoerner. Bowa goes 4-for-4 in the game with four runs scored, the grand slam and a double.

June 22, 2018

CF Odbúel Herrera ties a franchise record by homering in his fifth consecutive game, a 12-2 win at Washington.
