Phillies celebrate Mental Health Awareness Month
Since 1949, May has been annually recognized as Mental Health Awareness Month. To recognize this important initiative, the Phillies held multiple Strike Out the Stigma events throughout the month.
On May 6, a Strike Out the Stigma Party was held in the CP Rankin Club at Citizens Bank Park while the team was away. Local mental health workers were recognized for the great work they do with a night full of food, drinks and Phillies prizes.
The following week, on May 12, Phillies players and staff wore Strike Out the Stigma t-shirts, with the phrase “Never Fightin’ Alone” proudly displayed on the front. Later that night, the monthly Strike Out the Stigma panel was held in front of a sold-out audience in the Media Room before the game.
The next day, Phillies staff, including Mental Health Director Dr. Deanna Nobleza, traveled out to Haverford Middle School in Havertown, Pennsylvania with Minding Your Mind to teach students about the importance of mental health, and how to get help if they are struggling.
